Permits so Many

This is a very useful infographic on the time frame it normally takes in Brunei to get a planning permit processed. If ever there was a FAQ sheet, this would be on the top 3 questions everyone has.

But, this infographic as concise at is is, does not tell the whole story. So do read on.

The numbers indicated are the days it takes for the relevant departments to process the applications. They have been steadily improving and streamlining their procedures online. Many applications are now done via online with a simple click of a few buttons.

We, for one are pro-green. The more online everything gets the better it is for us. We get to save time and resources.

You should note though that the infographic only indicates the most basic time frame of the procedures.

There’s a lot more that goes on behind the scenes and that takes preparation time!

For example when it says it takes 14 days to obtain a planning permission. What it means is there’s an internal 14 day turnaround period within the department from the day you lodge your application.

It doesn’t mean you will get it within 14 days. Unless you are very very lucky!

Say, there are some comments on your application (and there usually are), then your Architect would have to make those ammendments and resubmit the application.

So you get your response in 14 days. If you’re lucky the Approval on your first try.

More often than not, there’s feedback and rectification period then a resubmission.

The 2nd round takes another 14 days and this process goes on and on until everything is fine and dandy. Then you wait for that final Approval Letter.

So, in short, it’s a great simplified version of the actual timeframe and really useful for a general overview of what happens.

Thank you for reading
